Retrieve or Recover Files from the Windows.old Folder

If you have upgraded to Windows 8 from previous version of Windows by retaining personal files, you might have seen a folder by name Windows.old in the drive where Windows 8 is installed. Windows.old folder stores all the files from your previous install. If you choose not to keep your files when you upgrade to Windows 8, your files will be temporarily saved to the windows.old folder (unless you formatted your hard drive before installing). If you decide you want some or all of these files back, you can still retrieve them.

In case you do not want the old files, you can simply delete the Windows.old by following this article. But in case you want to recover or retrieve files from Windows.old installation, you can follow the below steps.

Microsoft has a troubleshooter available for this purpose. You can run a troubleshooter that will automatically retrieve your personal files from the Windows.old folder and copy them back to their original location. The troubleshooter will work on all languages but the text in the troubleshooter is only in English. You can download the troubleshooter from here.

Just run the troubleshooter and it recovers all the files from the Windows.old folder. You can also manually recover this by navigating to the folder and then opening the folder Users from the Windows.old folder.

Whenever you press your Homescreen button twice or accidently press it for long time, you face the annoying VLingo Voice Command (Voice talk) app poping up. Samsung has left no option to disable this feature, whenever someone double taps the home screen button. Even after the latest upgrade there is no way to deactivate this voice command app in Galaxy S2.

VLingo Voice Command(Voice talk app) is inbuilt installed app in Samsung Galaxy S2. Many users have also commented on VLingo's official website, but there is no answer to disabling the voice command feature. How to Update HTC One XL with ICS ROM Firmware

HTC smartphone users can now update their HTC One XL with latest ICS firmware. There is the new ROM 3.1 custom ROM firmware available online for download. It features the latest Icecream sandwitch firmware for HTC One XL.

In case the phone starts in the normal mode then you need to try this step again to enter into the boot loader mode.
3. When the boot loader mode starts, Select “Recovery” option, to enter into the recovery mode. In recovery mode, select Wipe data/factory reset and also select Wipe Cache partition.
4. Now select “Install zip from sd card”, then “choose zip from sd card” and then select the Clean ROM 3.1 Custom ROM Firmware which you have placed in the root directory of your phone. Upgrade HTC Desire with Alex V 1.8 Custom ROM Firmware

There is a good news for all HTC Desire users, you can now upgrade with the Alex V 1.8 Custom ROM Firmware. The Alex firmware is been built by Alex V developer. Alex V 1.8 ROM runs on Android Gingerbread OS. Built on the AOSP system the amount of bugs are minimized to a great extend. This tutorial will help you in "How to Upgrade HTC Desire with Alex V 1.8 Custom ROM Firmware".

This GPRS trick is a bit tricky to activate, because you need to use a Front-Query in front of the URL name.

First, you need to change the internet settings in your mobile.

Best part of it is, it stores all your Past searches. Eg. PNR numbers, past Travel destinations, etc. So you need not need to remember or check your PNR number to see whether your PNR has cleared t he waiting status or not. The app stores all your details. When you search for the Trains, it shows availability of next 6 running days, which is fairly good.

Boot iPhone iOS 5.1 Tethered iBooty 2.3 iPad iPod

iOS 5.1 for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch is now available. Earlier we had discussed the "Jailbreak of iOS 5.1 in iPhone 4, 3GS, iPad, iPod Touch 4G, 3G". At this time, only a tethered jailbreak for A4 based devices is available right now, that too in a tethered state. So devices jailbroken will have to be booted tethered. Here is a tutorial "how to boot iOS 5.1 iPhone, iPad and iPod touch tethered" using iBooty 2.3.

iOS 5.1 tethered jailbreak is only supported by iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPod touch 3G, iPod touch 4G and iPad. This iOS 5.1 jailbreak is not compatible with iPad 2, New iPad or the iPhone 4S. The A5 or A5X based devices are not supported by this.

1. Download iBooty 2.3 for your PC.

2. Once downloaded launch iBooty 2.3, connect your device to the computer and select it from the dropdown menu.

3. Click Start.

4. iBooty will now display on screen instructions on how to put your device in DFU mode. Follow the instructions to Put your Apple device in DFU mode.

Before upgrading your mobile, its recommended to take a backup of your mobile, because you may loose your data during the ROM upgradation process. Please use individual apps to backup your data, because Kies software may not work with the new upgrade.

Make sure you have taken back up of:

• Contacts
• SMS
• Files, Videos, Songs, etc
• Also note down the MMS and Internet settings.

Before the start of the Firmware upgrade, make sure your Nexus phone is fully charged.

Steps to Upgrade Galaxy Nexus with Milestone 5 Custom ROM Firmware by AOPK:

1. Enable the USB debugging option in Galaxy Nexus by going to “Settings > Applications > Development > USB debugging”. The USB Debugging option should be ticked.
2. Download the Milestone 5 AOKP Firmware & Google Apps.
3. Connect Galaxy Nexus to the PC with the USB cable and transfer the Downloaded Firmware and Google apps files to the internal memory of the Nexus phone.
4. Disconnect the mobile from the PC and turn off the Galaxy Nexus so that it can be entered in the Boot loader mode, where you can install the new firmware.
5. Enter the "Boot loader mode" of Galaxy Nexus by pressing the Volume Up + , Volume Down and then simultaneously press the Power button till you see the boot loader mode screen.
6. In boot loader, mode, select the option of “Recovery mode” with the help of Volume keys and press the power button to confirm the same.
7. When the recovery mode starts, Select “Install zip from sd card” >  “choose zip from sd card” and then choose the “Milestone 5 Firmware Package” and “Google Apps” which you have transfered in the internal memory device.
8. Hold on for the upgrading process, which will now take about 5 – 8 minutes.
9. When the firmware update is applied successfully to Galaxy Nexus, Select “Go Back” and then choose the option “Reboot System Now” for rebooting the phone.
